Public exhibition opens on Marinus Link’s $20 million community legacy fund

Marinus Link Pty Ltd (MLPL) is inviting a final round of feedback on its Community Benefits
Sharing Framework (CBSF), which will govern a $20 million legacy fund supporting long-term,
transformational outcomes for North West Tasmania and Gippsland.

The Draft CBSF, now open for public consultation, was developed through a series of
engagements in 2025, involving communities, business and industry representatives, local and
state government, and First Peoples across Tasmania and Victoria.

MLPL CEO Stephanie McGregor said the CBSF makes sure communities closest to the project
share in its benefits long into the future.

“Marinus Link delivers a range of benefits for the grid and the economy – improving reliability,
enabling renewables, supporting jobs and driving regional investment,” Ms McGregor said.

“This $20 million legacy fund will be invested in the communities hosting this national
infrastructure, ensuring they see a direct and significant portion of the benefits.”

“This sits alongside $1 million in immediate funding already being delivered, through our grants,
sponsorships, and partnership programs.”

The legacy fund is proposed to be distributed across each state in a way that is fair and
proportionate to the relative infrastructure footprint:

  • Approximately $13 million for Gippsland
  • Approximately $6 million in North West Tasmania

In Tasmania, Marinus Link’s community benefits will sit alongside TasNetworks’ Bright Futures
Fund, which will invest in north and northwest communities. Together, they represent an
investment of more than $16 million as part of Project Marinus.

Feedback from last year’s engagement highlighted the importance of transparent decisionmaking,
local involvement and long-term outcomes.

“We’re now asking communities in North West Tasmania and Gippsland to provide feedback on
community priorities, values and expectations, and what should be considered in refining the
framework to ensure it is clear, practical and fair.”

“Importantly, when giving your feedback, remember that the CBSF provides the foundation and
guiding principles for how benefits-sharing programs will be designed and delivered over time –
it doesn’t define specific programs.”

The Draft CBSF will be on public exhibition until Sunday, 7 June 2026. Feedback will be
collected through an online survey, supported by targeted stakeholder engagement.

The Draft CBSF and survey is available at marinuslink.com.au/cbsf
